Love is in the air!  The unseasonably warm weather we’ve been having lately has us in the mood for romance.  Looking around the DC area, you’ll find doting couples taking leisurely walks along the Potomac waterfront, having lunch for two on the patio of a café, or (if you happened to be near the Westin Alexandria on February 19) attending the Alexandria Wedding Showcase.  We simply love a beautiful wedding!

Wedding trends at the Alexandria Wedding Showcase

While at the Wedding Showcase, we got some insight into the wedding trends we’ll see in 2017.  Some of the wedding trends from 2016 have carried over, with a few new ones you’re sure to see this year.

Pantone Color of the Year 2017

Color: Last year was all about calm colors – think dusty rose and sage green – but with vibrant Greenery as the 2017 Pantone color of the year, color will be back in weddings this year, too!

Wedding trends: food trucks at your reception

Food Trucks: We’ve seen food trucks at wedding receptions here and there over the past few years, but it will certainly become even more common starting this spring.

Wedding trends 2017: cocktail rings

Cocktail Rings: Historically, a bride would only wear her engagement ring walking down the aisle, but this year brides are adorning their fingers with colorful gems.

Carry-Over Trend

Wedding trends: metallic

Metallic: We saw metallic bridesmaid dresses all over 2016, and they are certainly back this year.  Keep your eyes open for a twist in 2017 – more whimsical silhouettes!

Biggest wedding trends of 2017: engagement rings

Now, it’s never too early to start planning your wedding – just don’t be discouraged if you didn’t start a wedding binder at the age of 13.  There are countless resources to help you get started and stay on track along the way.  The Wedding Showcase was an excellent occasion for many couples in the Northern Virginia area to discover bakeries, caterers, dress and tuxedo boutiques, entertainment and music providers, florists, photographers, and unique Alexandria venues to make their wedding day perfect.

Monte Durham weddings

Plus, a celebrity appearance never hurts! Monte Durham, co-host and fashion director of TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta” was a featured guest at the wedding showcase, bringing his sartorial style and insightful experience to eager brides. His top advice for couples trying to navigate the wedding planning experience? “Be true to yourself.” We couldn’t agree more.
